HI and thanks for your help. We are moving to Michigan next July, my husband got a job in UM. We have a 2 y/o baby. Could you please tell me which is the best neighborhood, area, etc to live? We would prefer not to be too far away from the hospital but a nice place. we are actually living in Miami so we are not very used to the cold and snow, would it be better an appartment the first year?
Thanks for your help

There are a lot of apartments actually within walking distance of the hospital and I would really advise checking those out first. Buying a house is a very tricky decision in a town with such overpriced, often indifferently-maintained real estate. There are no really horrible areas in Ann Arbor crime-wise, except for 'student' crimes like date rape and dealing marihjuana.

I have lived in AA for 6 years--it is very safe and the rentals are surprisingly nice (I came from Boston). You should ask about parking and snow removal when you look at apts. If you want to PM me, I can give you some ideas on places to live. The apts near the hospital are mostly students--not a huge problem, but obviously you may prefer a more "mature" neighborhood.
