I am trying move my stuff from a storage locker in Ann Arbor, to New York City where I now live. I have about 1500 lbs (one locker of 5x15'), am trying to hire someone to collect my stuff and deliver it to NYC. Has anyone done this and could recommend either a company or some other way to do this? Thanks!

Default May need two companies

1) Check Ann Arbor listings for companies that help people load/unload their belongings in/out of moving trucks. They will provide the labor to do the job. Sort of like Two Men and a Truck, except you don't need the truck.

2) Hire PODS, or equivalent, to deliver a container to the storage place to receive your goods, then pick-up the loaded container and move it to your new location.

The person managing the Rental Unit Center may be able to help with #1 and maybe both parts of this request. I assume you will not be in Ann Arbor for the move? Does anyone in Ann Arbor have keys to access your storage locker?

I was impressed with ABF u-pack. They drop off a 28' trailer give you a couple days to load then bring it to your new place and give you a couple days to unload. On both ends the drivers pulled out a heavy duty , sturdy ramp so I didn't have to wrestle with it. I used a wheelbarrow up and down the ramp for my boxed stuff, it was easy.

They charge per linear foot of trailer space and the trailer is 72" wide and really high so you can get a lot of stuff in a small area. It was about $900 for Michigan to FL for 9 linear feet of space, which was way cheaper than any other moving competitior.

No, I won't be in Ann Arbor for the move and the storage locker manager said I could mail him the keys to the locker and the mover could get them
from him. I started the process with American Van Lines (quoted me about $1400) but then read several horrible reviews about this company so I cancelled. And am now back to square one. Sorry for not responding to your post sooner - I couldn't find my PW and then got side-tracked. Thanks for your time.
