I am going to be living in Dundee, Michigan and attending the University of Michigan Dearborn. I know that the drive to Ann Arbor from Dundee is easy, but it's the drive from Ann Arbor to Dearborn that I'm worried about. I'll be driving to Dearborn in the morning and coming back in mid to late afternoon. How long do you think this will take? Is the traffic usually heavy? And do you have any advice for how to make my commute better?

Thanks.

That is a long commute. It will not be pleasant. You are looking at quite a bit more than one hour each way. Traffic onthe 94 will be heavy but not like LA. Where you will really have a hard time is when there is a game at U-M Ann Arbor. Do you have to live in Dundee?

I have a daughter starting at U-M D in the fall. What school are you in. She is in something called Castle or somesuch. I think that she will likely transfer to Ann Arbor next year if we find the money.

I do the commute from dearborn to EMU and back and have done at all hours but the 5 o'clock hour. It usually takes me 25-35 minutes so about an hour sounds about right. I do recommend getting familiar with surface roads so that you have a good back up when 94 has major backups. Michigan Ave is a great alternate most days. Good luck!

I asked a guy that I work with who commutes from Ann Arbor to downtown Detroit. He said that the morning is not too bad. When traffic is light, he can make it in 47 minutes. I asked about going into Ann Arbor around 5 or 5:30 and he said it is pretty bad. He does not ever go at that time because of the traffic.
