I don't like it either. But remember, there was a time when people were tearing off and covering all of the detailing on their Victorian homes because the general consensus of the day was that it was ugly, too.

Maybe Mid-Century Modern Mistake?

Looked similar to a motel in Wildwood, NJ:

This, as well as other once-though-of-tacky motels are being protected by historic preservationists.

"Southern California 70s Style Butt Ugly Gonna Leak In An El Nino What Were They Thinking" is, I believe, the correct name.

Midcentury Modern Travesty.

I prefer my mansard when it's a detail of Second Empire, steep but short. Not all mansard roof details are horrendous like this, sloping halfway down the building.

It's basically a 70's (possibly 60's) modern with a "neo-Mansard" roof. Although mansards are more typically associated with Victorian architecture, they had a revival of sorts in the 1960's. Although your building is not exactly great architecture, I'd take it over all of the faux-Tuscan stucco garbage I see being build today. Here's an interesting article:

Doesn't matter where it was located at, it is still butt-ugly.

French Mansard isn't so bad, where the Mansard roof actually has windows...
