Hi, I am an architecture student from Pakistan. for my studio project I am suggesting an airport terminal that is built 75% underground. I just wanted to know how practical is this idea in terms of servicing the terminal n all?
Thanks.
The Terminal is a very small percentage of the total airport land area, I guess with enought money & planning 75% could be underground and only the airside gates area above ground. But could not think of a good reason to do it.
Maybe to save space by putting it under the runways? But yeah, it's an unusual idea.
Something about landing planes on people's heads doesn't sound very, well smart. Nevermind how loud it would be. This plan doesn't really make sense though because you would then need stairs to get into the plane.
Build the terminal above ground and land the planes on the roof maybe? It's a student project - as long as you justify it you can be as silly as you like really.
