hi there
we are about to close on a home and move 400 miles away. The home comes with a breezeway that attatches the house to the garage. I think it is about 10 ft wide and 26-30 ft deep. We were thinking of going up two stories and having a master bath in the master bedroom (there is none now) upstairs and then downstairs, making another bedroom for our son who will have a smaller bedroom initially.
from what I am thinking, most of our cost would be walls and heat. We would be installing a bathroom which would piggyback the existing bathroom.
any ideas ; I know its hard to imagine it. The house is a saltbox contempory and we would be extending on one side. It would still be a 4 bedroom as we would knock the smaller bedroom and incorporate it into the kitchen.
Sounds costly. Were the no other homes that better met your needs? When you are talking about adding on to a "accessory structure" costs are typically as higher if not higher than "building from scratch" as things like breezeways often do NOT have foundations / footing sufficient "year round" interior finished space. Mechanical systems would have to be "spliced into" the existing house and that costs more than just starting from scratch...
Like chet said- you're going to be starting from scratch.
That so-called structure is not designed for what you propose. It would have to be torn down, then start from the ground up- if you want it done right.
I will send pics next week. i know there is a steel beam there already.
Thanks
