I'm about to move to Texas (possibly North) and would like to live in a house which fits to the climate and landscape. I've always liked the traditional architecture of the Mediterranean Area and North Africa.

But I never thought how difficult it would be to find these houses in Texas (if I don't want to pay 2Million+).

Is it really that expensive to build with stone, wood, clay like hundreds of years before?

Why are these fake Tudor Style Mansions way cheaper and all over the country?

I'm a little bit frustrated now.

Anything authentic will be expensive. Tile roofs are not typical in north Texas and will be a premium. Exterior wall veneer cost escalates like this: siding<brick<stucco<stone.

Those kinds of houses are not unusual in San Antonio.

True.

But I think the OP is talking about solid wall construction (thick stone) not the prevalent wood balloon frame with brick/stone/stucco veneer.

A custom builder will build pretty much anything you want, the way you want it - as long as it meets code and the neighborhood standards.

But since few Americans these days live in a house more than a decade or so, it doesn't make economic sense to build a "500 year house".

If this San Antonio builder (or most any other) of Mediterranean style houses built them with 2' thick concrete or stone walls, the he'd at least double the prices....

I'd like to have a new home built that would withstand hurricanes & tornadoes, but couldn't afford it.

You might find something closer to your idea of home suitable to climate if you buy an older home in a neighborhood which was not developed like modern subdivisions.
