My husband and I have been living in Florida for 10 years and really hate it. We were married on the Colorado River on the Little Belle (Laughlin) 18 years ago and liked it a lot. My husband spent his childhood in the desert (Calif) and I always liked the high desert when I lived in Calif, so we both are pretty familiar with the weather, terrain, etc. We are selling our place here in Florida and are looking to buy either a park model, used mobile home or even large travel trailer to live in. We are used to small spaces and don't mind it. One of our main concerns is money, since we'll be on a limited income. Can anyone tell me what we can expect as far as RV parks, mobile home parks, etc as far as rent costs (utilities included?) and availability. We are pretty much "plain folks" type, so we aren't looking for 4+ restaurants, etc. - diners & coffee shop fare sounds great. We like flea markets & bargain hunting. Are there many in the area? We were also considering Bullhead, but the "more moderate" weather in Kingman sounds better and also less crowded with snowbirds. Any information on any of the above would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Cool I can strongly suggest a place WE'VE chosen to have a get-away retirement home at!!!

We have lived in Chandler Arizona for 23 years and originate from the cooler
climates ourselves but I can strongly suggest a wonderful place you probably would never hear of otherwise that's fantastic and fits the bill perfectly for you? They have both full size trailers or "park models" which we love and are chosing ourselves in Dewey Arizona just a short drive from Prescott Arizona which is just gorgeous!! The name of the 55 plus park in Dewey is Orchard Park RV resort but they're transistioning quickly to adding more land and eventually allowing only permanent residents living in park models which they sell or mobile homes. The climate is ideal there and the expense is no where near what you'd find elsewhere in the state. It's a great escape from the Phoenix area heat where we live but the winters are mild....just perfect. Cost a year is $2900 a year for park rent which is really reasonable with a swimming pool and tons of other ammenities and planned activities. Average utilities (the residents told us when we visited a few months ago) is around $100 a month and they also have cable tv available and internet access. Home
Check out their web site and you'll never regret it.

Best wishes,
Paul Plovick

Just checked their site and they have prices posted of 450.00 per week and 1500.00 per month; nothing about special circumstances or anything. Seems extreme in cost and certainly not geared to perhaps the average retiree...

I live in upstate NY and absolutely hate the cold and the cost of living in the Winter is getting unbearable. I am in the same position as Snippet 2. At this stage I am looking at areas where it's warm. I don't want to own, are there any apartments for seniors only? Not looking for a retirement community which comes with big bucks. I heard about Kingman Heights, do you know anything about that place? Thanks in advance.

Paul: My wife and I just bought at Orchard Park and are expecting to spend the summer month up there. We investigated other areas, Payson, Show Low and Pinetop and think this is the best of both worlds. We live in Corte Bella in Sun ity West and this is only 1hr. 10 minutes from home. We bought lot 98, look us up when you buy. We will probably not be there for any length of time until June. Barry Eiser-e-mail address is barwend@cox.net.

Thanks! Actually, last October we went on a "recon" visit to Kingman and Bullhead City. We had never been to Kingman before but had been to Bullhead and Laughlin several times before. After spending some time and doing a lot of visiting and comparing, we decided that BHC was actually the place for us (summer heat and all!!). We checked out RV & MH Parks there and found several that would fit the bill!

Thanks so much for your help!

Your welcome

Please let me know how things work out for you.. my wife and I have been
doing much research on BHC area and Kingman. Such as home buying vs Rv resorts vs 55+ mobile parks. Along with the area's services, conviences, temps, surrounding landscapes, crime, utilitiy rates and so-on. We would like
to have (first-hand) input from someone who does take up residents at one of the RV parks/resorts, 55+ communities. We are very outgoing, but still enjoy/want peace and quiet.. very quiet lol! We like the idea of buying a home in BHC/Fort Mohave area or Kingman, for the fact of having some elbow-room and space for visiting friends/relatives, then we also like the idea of living in the RV at a nice quiet park and having almost no upkeep/care free living along with the socializing of other RV residents. So, if you happen to get set-up in a nice RV park, please give us a shout.. we would like to hear on what you think about the place.. thanks!

Glad to! Unfortunately, we've just listed our place for sale, so no idea how long our wait will be. We have a pretty unique place in northern Florida on the water in the country, so we're hoping it won't be too, too long even with the current market. Also, we are being reasonable with our asking price. Anyway, I will definitely be sure to clue you in on our experiences once we arrive.

Thanks again!

Thank-You!
We have been getting things in order as well, so we can move to
Arizona.. takes awhile. But then we have not been in a big hurry either.
Doing much research as possible first.. figured it would help in narrowing
down our choices. It's been a bit overwhelming at times LOL! Still have
not completely decided, but we will either live in Fort Mohave area or
Kingman. Good Luck to you.. Hope all goes well!
