Very scary to me--who does not live in AZ--and who does not want to bail it out.
Tea party in the Sonora: For the future of G.O.P. governance, look to Arizona—By Ken Silverstein (Harper's Magazine)

I am sure there are plenty of people who will refuse to accept the accuracy of the information and try to knock down the logic of the reasoning but calling a mudpie a wedding cake does not make it taste any better...

My Friend, AZ is not alone with these problems each state has similar problems. Some have outlandishly high taxes and are STILL insolvent. California, New York, Michigan, Rhode Island, New Jersey, on and on are in terrible condition. These states, along with many others, have taxes that are so high they have no where to go with them. Face the facts, the politicians in general in this country have failed us.
All of them fighting for more power, more votes, more recognition, and more control.
I gladly look to States like Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, for some self-control, a little common sense, and a bit of understanding of the Constitution.
I guess it each to there own.

Actually, as a percentage of their total budgets, 2 of the 3 states you mention (ie Arizona & North Carolina) as having "some self-control, a little common sense, and a bit of understanding of the Constitution" have had to face a situation that was worse than that in California, New York, Rhode Island - and even basket-case Michigan (4 of the 5 states you specifically singled out as being in poor shape). Even very Red Texas - with a "relatively strong" economy - had to face a 10% budget deficit (nearly as much as Rhode Island (one of the states you singled out as being in "terrible condition"). Take a look at Table 1 (showing what states have already had to face).

States Continue to Feel Recession

Me too!
I think it's a very scary time for just about everybody in AZ except well-off retirees.
I find AZ politics fascinating and it will be interesting to see what the budget will be like.

What is scary to me is that anyone would place much stock in what is obviously a biased article with a distorted historic perspective. The OP said: "I am sure there are plenty of people who will refuse to accept the accuracy of the information and try to knock down the logic of the reasoning but calling a mudpie a wedding cake does not make it taste any better..." That sounds like to me that he's not interested if the article is factual or logical or reasonable. It bashes Arizona and conservatives, and that's all that matters. Facts and logic are secondary.
Sad.

Highly biased one sided piece. Cali is much closer to having to be "bailed out" and to a far greater amount than AZ. Do you have a similar post on the Cali forum or did you choose AZ because this state's overall political views are different than yours?

"The general unsightliness of the capitol makes it a fitting home for today’s Arizona legislature, which is composed almost entirely of dimwits, racists, and cranks."

WOW, thats certainly not a biased statement, and I can't see where this author has an axe to grind.
