I keep hearing people say they are protected and you can't remove them even if they are uh "beyond" horrible/dead/falling over looking. Is this true?

Call the state Department of Agriculture to be sure you get all the correct info. They are the ones who enforce all the laws/regs re: saguaros.

Wow~~~I heard you need a permit to remove them from your own property.
Not that I have had the problem, but if I own it on my property and I want it down it's all mine.

Even if your saguaro is dead or fallen over you need to have dept of agriculture come out to give the ok to remove the cactus. My neighbors fell over this winter and it had to sit the way it fell for a week til they came out.
If it is still alive, you can have someone remove and transplant it for you

Yeah if anyone has a live Saguaro that they don't want, let me know. I want one or maybe a few for my yard.

One can destroy protected plants on their private property but notice must be filed with Dept of Ag. You can also sell them or give them away, but need to get a transport permit to attach to them first.

If you are planning on disposing of the cactus on your own property you do not need a permit.
I just called the Dept of Agriculture and that was "Debbie's" answer to me.

Never underestimate the willingness of people to just state things as fact that they don't know to be true.
