I would look at Bisbee. Granted, a little on the edgy side; however, it is a beautiful town.

You saw a show on TV, some basis for an opinion. Cochise county is one of the best places I've ever lived. In Sierra Vista homes are cost more than most places in Arizona and the housing market is good, supported by TDYs from Fort Huachuca. My neighbor just sold for $318,000, that's more than I paid 5 years ago.

The US Government, not Slave Mart is the largest employer in the county. Actually the Army is the largest, Border Patrol is second. You hardly see an illegal in Sierra vista because of their heavy presence.

Douglas can be too Hispanic for Many people, I'd look at Bisbee-Warren, where all of the hippies haave settled. Sierra vista is a ride but it is beautiful. 80s here yesterday with a shower in the afternoon. At 4600ft it just don't get any better

I lived at 4300 ft. in Rio Rico, and the Summer was so much more bearable than Phoenix.

Wow.
I am thinking you might want to come out of your house once in awhile and look around.
My wife was born in Tombstone and we had acreage just 9 miles from the border and 11 miles south of Wal Mart in town.
I know well how many arrests (OK detentions for recycling) all agencies make in Cochise County as my wife's cousin is the Sheriff there.
You really need to get out more.
And I lived in the area in '67-8, '93-4 and then 2003 to 2008 so I do know the area very well.

That was years ago when the McCain and Bush were closer to amnesty than anyone since Reagan handed it out. The border enforcement is tough now. I am out every day and the only thing I fear is nutjob militias with automatic weapons shooting at each other

OK, this is from this article. Note that the Tucson Sector includes your area.
the quote is from this linked article~ AZ Fact Check: Keeping Arizona Honest
But I wanted to make sure you saw this part from that Article~

"In 2009, Border Patrol agents apprehended 556,032 undocumented immigrants throughout the country. Of those, 248,619 were captured between the Tucson and Yuma sectors of Arizona — meaning 44.7 percent of all illegal immigrants caught were in Arizona at the time, according to the Department of Homeland Security."

I would bet that most of the 556K were captured in Cochise County.

Now living 9 miles from the border, having relatives in the county government and knowing several border patrol people pretty well I can tell you for a fact they are lucky if they catch 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 of those they detain.
And I can also tell you that Cochise County has lots of federal property along the border that makes it ideal for crossing into this country.
My wife was also the Business Management Officer for the Coronado National Forest until she retired right there at the Sierra Vista office.
You have not idea how many illegals started warming fires and left them coming over the mountains only to start fires that you paid to put out.
You also don't know anything about the illegals that were robbed by their escorts, beaten and left in the mountains to fend for themselves do you?
Many stumbled into the offices to ask for help for people robbed and still up on the mountain.
I can tell you this, I think it was 2006 that all agencies detained some 262K of them in Cochise County alone. Now if they only catch 1 in 4. that left some 750k that got through or away.
I also used to monitor the radio frequencies of many agencies and I can tell you for a fact that many times they put out messages prior to 2008 to stop detaining people as they had run out of buses to take them back to the border for processing.
I don't' care how many people you put on the border, this is not going to stop anytime soon and it's been going on longer than I have been alive by far.
And, in the infinite wisdom of our government, the Forest Service along the borders were forced to put up these signs. http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/...arningSign.jpg
When I ask the Ranger at Sierra Vista why he said some clowns in an office elsewhere thought it might provide a disclaimer so people might not sue them if they got in trouble in the forests.
I don't think you would know an illegal if you saw one my friend.
Just the facts.

Spent summers in Douglas as a kid when my Grandpa moved there from Chicago to retire. Loved every minute of it. My Great aunt got lost in Mexico when she got older and when we found her she was healthy but never the same again. I'm looking to buy some acres there when I retire next year. It has always been my dream.
