I just got a notice from the state that I owed them $165 from 2007. I could have fought them about not deducting my federal pension but the additional interest would have been equal to the deduction. With interest it was still under $200.

Anyone else get nailed?

Yeah, they asked for more info on a deduction I had for 2007. I gave em what they wanted (though I sent it in with the return too) and they sent me a letter saying the case was closed. Interesting...

I don't remember that far back, and any changes may not have applied to me, but perhaps there were some changes in the laws that year that's making them go back and check returns from that year. DOR is pretty understaffed (one of the agencies that did big layoffs a while back) so I'd imagine it takes a while to get these things done.

We got our Fed return audited for 2007. Had them prepared by H&R Block. There was an old business deduction that the tax preparer said we could deduct and when the Fed audited they said we couldn't deduct because we had losses 3 out of the 5 years so they considered the business a hobby. We now owe $7500 to feds and $1500 to the state.

Seems they really like the 2007 returns for some reason.

Interesting. I was audited and so was my daughter by the Feds. We are both still going back and forth with them regarding paperwork that was submitted originally.
