ADOT enforcement officers ensure that commercial vehicles
comply with size, weight and safety requirements at the state’s ports of entry and through mobile enforcement operations.

Do we have that big of a problem in Arizona that we need to have ADOT officers?

Yes they are needed especially since we are a border state. They are essentially the offices at the truck weigh stations. Many states have them.

NEED, Kremit?

There is nothing more dangerous than a HUGE 18 WHEELER or similar vehicle about the size and weight of a small building cruising down the freeway at 75 to 90 MPH which just happens to be in violation of one or more of ADOT's Safety Regulations.

Thankfully you have not been on the receiving end of one of those mega-wrecks involving an overweight, improperly loaded semi with a "dozing" or otherwise distracted driver.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone honored and respected the laws of the road then we wouldn't need ADOT Officers?

Private and commercial vehicle enforcement in this state is a joke. The state has no problem charging fees for road tax, motor carrier tax, light use fuel tax and vehicle registration tax but they refuse to protect the motoring public. This state needs roadside inspection stations for commercial vehicles and limit lane usage, commercial vehicles restricted to the right hand lanes. Just the same as when we go in for emission testing a safety inspection on the vehicle should be performed.

I could not agree more, AZM . . .

However, can you imagine the CRYING and SCREAMING Po Me by the "Bleeding Hearts" if and when any of these laws were even proposed . . . let alone passed?

Have you ever wondered why there's no law restricting passengers in an open bed of a Pick-Up?

When did ADOT start writing speeding tickets?

I always thought that was odd that we don't. But I've never even herd of the job, until the other day, when I saw one on the freeway.

They don't write speeding tickets. But they do perform equipment checks, weighins, and other inspections to enforce safety regulations.

Bills come up to ban that from time to time. The argument against is that in rural areas, most notably reservations, the pickup is the only family transportation. I have long wondered why they did not simply write a law that banned such activity in counties over a certain population, i.e. Maricopa and Pima.

This has nothing to do with the wife riding in the back with a load of hay. The reason it gets pushed to the side it the teamsters union.

The inspectors write citations for mechanical and equipment violations on the truck vehicles they inspect.
