This isn't the fastest route, but it's a lot more scenic, and there really aren't any bad roads. The only two lane road is highway 89 from Ash Fork to the 89A junction ... but I understand that stretch will be widened in time.
I drove that route four times last year and I was surprised at how little traffic there really was between Ashfork and Chino Valley. It was easy driving...except for the two horrendous rain storms I encountered! It was in July and August so I expected it but, oh my!

Major issues with construction between CV and Ash Fork. The bridge between CV and Paulden is one lane and there is a traffic light that holds up traffic since it's one lane crossing. It's awfully narrow as well. A class A Motorhome probably cannot cross. Hopefully the construction will be done soon. But yes, Paulden to Ash Fork is a lovely ride on Rte 89. Views of the Verde Valley to the east and Bill Williams Mt to the north. Never seen any cops and have cruised at 90 each and everytime too.LOL.

I haven't been over that way for a long time so didn't know about the construction. I guess, if I go to Vegas, I'll have to go another way! Yes, I really love those views.

I've rarely ever seen a cop on that hiway and the one I DID see was going the other way faster than me! I set my cruise control to 'just' below 10 MPH over and cruise. Sometimes that starts to feel like crawling though considering the wide open road and I'll step on it a little. lol
