Congrats on your relocation, Txn. We loved our five years in Kingman. My guess is that all those CA license plates you're seeing are the same people who are buying all those new homes. I'll bet half the folks in Kingman are from CA, or at least their parents are. It is an extremely popular place to move to after cashing out of CA property.

Regarding employment, not that it matters to you, but there are folks in ALL income levels in Kingman. The richest are the doctors and other professional services, and also the real estate and construction businesses. The middle class tends to be the small business owners, but there are also well paying jobs in the management ranks of some of the larger businesses (we were in that category) and government. Labor jobs tend to go to the lowest bidders, which is the same anywhere, but probably a bit worse in Kingman. The most vociferous Kingman haters in this forum tend to fall in the latter designation. Otherwise, if you're fairly financially independent, you will most likely love Kingman.

Not. Why would a Californian have a vacation home in Kingman? Can't even imagine. Nor had we met anyone during our years there that did. Havasu or Bullhead because of the boating, maybe. But Kingman, no.

Not to pick on you, but this is a popular mantra of Kingman haters and a bit tiring. There are lots of beautiful manicured neighborhoods in Kingman, more so than the couple pockets of dilapidated old areas. You should spend a day with someone knowledgeable and actually see the area before making judgements like this.

I love it here in Kingman, not a big city; not over crowded, standard of living is very cheap here including gas. Beautiful scenery, an hour away from the river,The people here are great! Most people i've ran into are just so down to earth. I've noticed that some residents don't like big lifted trucks. I drive a lifted SUV and everytime I step out, some people give me dirty looks.(Mostly the elderly residents). However, I do feel sorry for those who are homeless and are panhandling just to servive. When I first moved here, I couldnt count how many different police agencies there are. Local,Volunteer,Marshal,Sherrif,DPS,undercover, etc . Overall, it's a nice small town to live in. It may not be for everyone but I mostly stick to myself and don't go out and socialize much.

All the reasons we felt very much at home when we were there 3 weeks ago and bought a house

I have a big 4x4 pick-up. Let 'em glare. I'm not the one going to get stuck in the sand in the desert.

I was thinking of getting a Smart Car and storing it in the truck bed, kind of like a lifeboat.

That won't help unless you're on a paved road. Now an ATV would be a different story.
