Needles is one of these old rail road towns. Once the RR employed probably the whole town direct or indirectly.
Now it is gas stations, some motels and restaurants. I like the Wagon Wheel restaurant/truckstop. It is only a restaurant, with semi parking, but great home made food for very reasonable price.
But the workers live in AZ....... And they told me more than once, they would never live in Needles.

Driving the bus. route through town is indeed something else.... It is not dangerous by any means, but looks like folks lost interest.

Wish you folks in BC all the best, the location is great.

I don't know if it's dying, or just parts continuing to decay. The Cities FB page just had a positive post. A new Eagle Rider Harley rental shop opened yesterday, the 99¢ Store apparently is a "go" by Target. I spoke with a business owner today who is considering a major renovation of his building.

The street resurfacing is starting, but I think we screwed up. I don't think the cheap solution the city went with will even last the summer. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we just wasted 1.4 million dollars.

The blighted areas are still a big problem.

But the good news is the river run starts today and the meth deliveries are pouring in! Supplies should be ample through the summer! (Jk).

Mohave Daily News. Sorry, no link because their website is messed up. But Staples admitted they may've jumped the gun in closing since those plans were in the works when Officemax left and Staples couldn't back out of leaving their Target location since the 99 Cents Store already had dibs on it.

I'm not from here. I'm from the Midwest. We moved here almost 3 years ago.

Why is the town dying? Outrageous taxes both sales tax & property tax. Yes, I know as I've heard it to the point of rolling my eyes, it's cheaper than California however I didn't move to Cali so that's really of no consequence. My grocery bill has doubled & with some things tripled or quadrupled.

Of course the economy is crappy so most people have to watch what they spend money on. So that hurts businesses. People are less apt to support businesses who can't compete with low prices. And while there is a lot to do at Laughlin... it's more expensive than if you tried to go to a movie or go bowling elsewhere.

It's just a sad state of affairs. I love the weather here, even the heat but it's sort of a depressing situation in Bullhead City & even over into Kingman. We moved out here for health reasons but I must say we're looking elsewhere. I don't see a lot of incentive for anyone to stay after the new wears off. It's just a shame. The kind of thing that happened when the sewer assessment happened costing residents $10,000 is a prime example. Rather than do grants & work the system to help the people... just make them pay ten grand? Put the people first & they'll work to make the town something. I don't see much chance of that happening at Bullhead, I'm sad to say

^^^ Very good point. I forgot about that. The sewer assessment is behind a lot of the blighted properties. People walked away rather than put 10 k into a property worth 15k. That pretty much wiped out all equity in Riverbend trailers and vacant building lots. That should have been Federal paid.

It boggles my mind how places like Staples stayed in business. Like Target or Bed and Bath or KMart, there is never anyone in there. How can they keep the lights on? They can't possibly make a profit. Maybe I'm just totally out of touch.

The little taco stand on Marina was busy and still closed because the rent was too much to be profitable, how can these giant stores stay in business, when they have no business?

I want the town to prosper, I have a lot invested here, but I'm looking elsewhere. I'm just not seeing improvement.

You mean El Zamys down by Marina and Riviera? They moved up Marina in 2014 and a few months ago went in the old Gettin the Shakes place over on Hancock.
