Smaller towns in AZ there is almost no wait whatsoever. Phoenix is crowded as is Tucson but other than that?
I think you will need to get insurance issued by an AZ certified insurance company and yours may be on the list already.
You license is good until 65 here and then must be renewed every 5 y ears thereafter. And your fees will be much less and unless you are living in one of the bigger metro areas you will not have to smog your car either.
And yes you can wait, it's not a big deal. So many out of state plates around here that it doesn't matter. But if you take a job you are required to get it done I think within 30 days after you start the job.
We moved from the SF Bay area many years ago with jobs and such and have never looked back. Much cheaper state to live in.

My insurance is valid till May. If it will be cheap in AZ (in comparison to CA), then it would be better to reach AZ and then renew for next 6 month or 1 year. Till then I can keep renewing it month by month.

Just remember some states are different. I have lived in states that sell insurance by the year and by 6 month periods.
AZ is a 6 month state and I have yet to see any company offer anything else.

I'll piggyback this thread if the OP doesn't mind instead of starting a new one.

I am buying a car from a family member and having the car shipped here. How do we complete the title transfer without seeing each other in this process? Once the car is here, what is the order of events that need to happen? 1. Emissions, 2. Register, etc ?

IF you have a clear title properly signed off there should be no problem.
Emissions in AZ depends on where you are in the state and for the most part that means the larger metro areas. I am in the Prescott area and have also lived in Safford and Sierra Vista and we did not do emissions testing there. https://www.azdeq.gov/environ/air/vei/tested.html
As far as the registration you will have to take the car to a local DMV office for inspection of the VIN numbers to make sure they match the title when you register it.

Funny, I had the opposite reaction after moving the hell OUT of AZ, and TO CA. Kissed the ground that I wasn't in a state filled with ignorant, hateful people any longer 👍

Hope you has pristine credit. CA does not run/factor your credit for insurance, AZ does.

Ignorant and hateful? You're the one responding to a three year old thread.

Enjoy the billions of dollars in higher fuel costs and vehicle fees that take effect July 1 next year. And your California roads are still going to be in crappy condition.

Go to DMV late on a Wednesday, unless you are in Phoenix there will be little wait. Present CA DL, fill out form, take eye test, get photo. Give auto reg and ins. They may or may not go look at it, depending on where you are. Pay $$ take plate (one plate) affix to car. DL will come in mail.

Then go outside, count the money you saved and shout FREEDOM!
Oh now, CA isn't THAT bad, haha. It's a great place to visit, after all

I've never heard of an insurance company checking credit but, then again, I've been with the same company for quite a few years so they know I pay my bills.
