I'll be moving in the Fall of '16 and I need some good advice about when to start looking for gainful employment in AZ. What was your experience or what would you recommend?

Broad question.

Most of the industry in AZ is focused on Phoenix/East Valley.
Tucson has some industry, but not a lot.

What field?
