Hi, I realize there are other similar threads, but they are outdated. I have a job interview for a teaching position in Page.
I am an active single 30 something female who loves the outdoors. Will I find like minded people? I haven't had much luck finding any information online, but some small towns offer a lot more than what you can see online. Is it progressive, artsy, spiritual, or just touristy? Is there any sort of music scene? Any thoughts would be great. I will be moving out there without knowing a single soul. Thanks for any input.

It's like living in a two block long strip center on a hill between a giant coal fired power plant and a giant dam with a big, empty lake behind it and a few lost tourists driving through. Music scene? LOL, yeah, so long as you like country western. There's a WalMart so life can't be too bad.

Of course I don't live there so whadda I know.

Welcome to Arizona.

Buy a gun.

Well, if anything you made me laugh before turning in! I've spent time in Flagstaff, Prescott and Casa Grande, but know nothing about this area. Thanks for you input! Still laughing.

Page exists very much for the tourist aspect of Lake Powell and all that that entails.....it did not even exist before 1958 when the bridge and dam were started....some retired people who love water/fishing/boating, lots of other boat-lovers, families of tourist-related employees, some rednecks, some Navajos, and everybody doing everybody else's laundry, as the saying goes.....

ask questions during your interview about housing, social stuff, and what concerns you....though it has all the usual services, it is remarkably remote

it very definitely does NOT have a progressive, artsy, spiritual rep among long-time Arizonans (or locals), but I presume some locals are, perhaps, trying to change that....

ask yourself (and them) why is there an opening for a teaching position??!!...is turnover high?....do the students, and parents, give a dam(n)? (pun sorta intended!)

Gotchya, lol It is such a beautiful place, so I guess it is just as well if it doesn't get built up. Thanks for your suggestions. Now, I have to go grab the laundry.

Hey! The good people of Arizona appreciate Country and/or Western music -- the very roots of America!

The very best to you in your Page adventure, Suzy!

Contrary to what this poster "humorously" suggests in practically every response to someone seeking info about one of the smaller cities in AZ, you don't need a gun to live in Page.

I don't live in Page, either, but I've had experience living in the smaller cities in AZ when I was a young single woman. It's not particularly artsy, unlike some of the other small cities/towns in AZ. Not at all like Flagstaff or Prescott, in that and other ways. Even Casa Grande at least has proximity to the Valley going for it. Outdoor activities? Sure, there's a lot of potential for that, depending on what you like to do. As noted above, it's there because of the lake and the dam. But, it's a pretty isolated place; it's a significant drive to any larger place with more options.
