There are a lot of nice places in AZ just depends on what you're looking for. What are your parameters?

Kingman is great. We were originally from CA and relocated to Kingman for business reasons for five years, then returned to CA. I absolutely loved it there. If you like the outdoors, and the freedom to 4x4 into the deserts and mountains, to target practice in the hills, and just to explore, then you'll love it there. There's no violent crime to speak of in Kingman, so you don't need guns for that. However going target practicing with your neighbors is a great way to get to know them.

Birdland is a relatively small seedy neighborhood and kind of scary, at least it was to me. Butler is a huge sprawling area of old small cottages and trailers, and a mixed bag with some good streets and some bad. You can't beat the prices there, but you get what you pay for. There are many really nice neighborhoods in Kingman though, but you don't see them by just passing through. You just need to look around.

The people who claim Kingman is just a pit-stop don't know Kingman. You don't get to know a place by just stopping for gas. I myself stopped there many times on cross-country motorcycle rides and often wondered what the heck people did for a living out there. What a strange quirk of fate that we ended up getting transferred there of all places for business. And it was really wonderful. I'd move back in a heartbeat. We made many great friends there with whom we still keep in touch and get together with.
