We hear there are some neighborhoods we want to avoid such as Birdland and Butler. If I find a rental online, how do I know if it's in one of these areas. Is there a map that outlines the bad areas?

No, just use google maps, if you see dirt yards and dead cars where lawns should be it is a clue.

Well, can you at least tell me if this is a good area to live in?

I wouldn't live there if it was free.
But to each his or her own. If you love trucks running 24/7, it might be just perfect.

What Cory says.

That area is the older part of town, basically the Butler and Birdland area where most of the drug trouble is.

Switch Google maps to satellite view and look for green and pools - that will tell you the better areas.

The area east toward the new hospital and (I think) SE of I-40 is better as is up the road to the Haualapai Park area (the mountains). Those homes get up into the 300 - high 400K range though. But there are plans to build a huge interchange and mall or something somewhere by the new hotel, I think.

Suggest a weekend at the lovely Days Inn and look around with a realtor before you decide to go further. Have dinner at the Haualapai Lodge.

Frankly with the exception of some of the nice homes on the Haualapai road I'd rather live in Bullhead City, if you can take the summer heat.

Welcome to Kingman, buy a gun. One for each hand.

Disclaimer: I don't actually live there. But I've driven through a time or two... hundred..

Birdland is the NE part of town basically anything with a birds name as a street(Dove, Bluebird, etc). Butler is where a good concentration of drugs and parolees live, basically anything north of Northern. There are nice parts of Kingman but I would recommend moving elsewhere in AZ. Kingman is basically a pit stop to/from Las Vegas.

We chose Kingman because our grandkids live in Reno but we don't want to live too close to some certain in-laws.
