Yuma has the Colorado River and a lot of agricultural irrigation; it's probably not as arid as people might think. Humidity can make 60 degrees feel less comfortable. Someplace in the desert that doesn't have a large body of water nearby or agriculture could be comfortable even at 80 F.

The road to the visitor center at Anza-Borrego State Park in California drives through a pass of the range that blocks moisture from the coast, where one can see clouds achieve the peak and literally disappear immediately before the eyes as they enter the valley on the east and get the moisture sucked out of them.

Borrego Springs is very hot in summer, but the Badlands there are amazing. So gorgeous, rugged and wild. All the parks around that area of Joshua Tree and Death Valley are the driest areas we have in the US. (Avoid the Salton Sea area.)

I am also interested in the Atacama Desert in Chile, which runs less than 2" of precipitation per year. I'm thinking any desert rat -- and especially a dark-sky and astronomy fan would probably love it down there.

Does Imogene Pass have electricity and "wired internet" access which is a requirement of the OP?

It would require a generator and a satellite dish. A very tall mount for the dish would help, as I'm sure it's under 12-15 feet of snow for a majority of the year.
