You are omitting the FACT that news about the eclipse WAS ALL OVER the media for weeks ahead of time.

It was on TV, it was in newspapers, magazines, it was on the radio and all over the internet.....AD NAUSEUM.

How in the heck could your daughter have managed to miss ALL OF IT?

I will say it again, the fact that your daughter had no idea about how to safely view the eclipse says more about her than the media.

Yeah. I know NY schools are better than what have here in AZ, but didn't think it extended to the point where a valedictorian needs the media to inform them to not stare into the sun...........

Not to mention, that this was covered extensively, everywhere..... To the point where many outlets were having eclipse fatigue, putting up articles about how they are glad to no longer need to talk about the eclipse

No, I am pretty sure your daughter is the only one other than toddlers or people who are in a coma.

Sometimes people are book smart yet lack a lick of common sense.
