Hello,

My wife & I are looking at purchasing around 40 acres of land in the Show Low or Snowflake area and living off the grid. I see there are so many places for sale around this area & nearby city's. We have never lived there but have visited once and liked the area. Does anyone have any suggestions on what town would be the best? Its hard to narrow down our focus on a city without knowing if any of the city's are safer & better then the others.

We would like to be able to start a garden to grow our own fresh vegetable's & fruit. We are also going to be setting up solar but looking to haul water in until we can afford to dig a well. Does anyone happen to know how much hauled water costs in this area?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dusten

"Depth to water in C-aquifer wells ranges from approximately 1,200 to 1,600 feet below the surface....Groundwater from the C-aquifer and from local aquifers (Bidahochi, Lakeside-Pinetop and White Mountain aquifers) is the principal water supply for municipal use in the Mogollon Rim region, including the communities of Heber, Pinetop-Lakeside, Show Low, Snowflake, Springerville, Eagar, Saint Johns and Greer." link.

another link to water in the White Mtns.

Before zeroing in on buying "off the grid" White Mountain land....look closely at the water situation.

Hauling water for fruits/vegetables and human consumption could become quite a chore.

All I'm saying is....Buyer beware.

Thanks for the information I did not realize that it was that far down until you reached water. I will definitely look into that more closely as yes hauling water could become quite a chore and expensive.

I do not believe that many wells have to be dug that deep in the Show Low/Snowflake area. Some are 5-600 feet deep, but haven't heard of deeper around here.

I see this thread is a couple years old but just in case you're still in the market and wondering about well depth, our home is on the hill north of Snowflake and our well is 400 feet deep with the pump sitting at 350... no problems with a water supply here.
