Hi. I am from a small town in Northern New York and am looking for change to improve my life. I was hoping some of you may have ideas of where good places to start over may be.

About me, I am 30 years old. I have a bachelor's degree in theater arts and have finished about half of a masters degree in global studies. My job history has been a bit all over the place and unremarkable. I worked in a gas station for about 4 years, substitute teaching for 3, I have had a few delivery jobs and some inventory work.

In addition to this I have a TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) which I received in Prague, and I spent 6 months doing missionary work in Quebec and French Polynesia.

I live in a small village in an area with not many opportunities. I want to live somewhere that's not too big, but some place where there is opportunity to both work as well as to explore and experience new things.

Many people come to Arizona to re-invent themselves. What is it about Arizona that has you asking?

My grandparents spend most of the year down there now so I have some family. Also, I just really want a change. Change of culture, change of scenery, something different from New York and the north east generally.

The heat will be quite a shock to you, as well as its longevity. Where in AZ are you eyeballing? Northern AZ is much cooler than Southern AZ. If youre looking to move to the PHX area, I would suggest you visit in late June when temps can hit 118 degrees, and then in July when it cools down a bit (107) but with humidity. Too many people move here and then leave a few years later because the heat beats them down, I just don't want you to be another one of those people.

Try to secure a job before moving. You will need a car. Most of the jobs are in Phoenix. Most of the state is not urban, but Federal and Indian lands.

I realize the heat will be difficult. Though if its dryer I think it would be more bare-able to me than humidity. As for where in Arizona, my grandparents live in Yuma, so I'd probably check around there first.

If you're going bare, don't forget the SPF!

Haha. I spent 3 months in French Polynesia last year and was religious about SPF. I go to Canada after, don't even think about SPF, and guess where I get the sun burn, lol

July, August, and September are quite humid. Not what you've been accustomed to, but definitely not "dry" air. Mornings and evenings can have grotesque humidity and dew points, afternoons are more tolerable as the heat burns a lot of it off. Just be warned.
