I recently decided that I want to move to the Southwest. I have narrowed it down to Arizona and Nevada. Being from the Midwest I'm tired of the snow and cold weather. I would like to move to a city that has a reasonable cost of living, enough job opportunities, and nice weather. I'm looking for a smaller city about 80,000 people or less. Looked into Laughlin, NV and that just seems way to hot. Prescott, AZ seems really nice. It just seems that the cost of living is just crazy or its just too hot. Cost of living is probably the most important. I heard that Tucson is reasonable but its to big of a place for me.

Any advise would be helpful. Thanks

Tucson might be worth checking out. It never feels like a big city to me. Reasonable cost of living. To me the summer heat beats dealing with snow and cold . It's a trade off. What do you do for a living? Finding a job might be tough, depending on what you are looking for.

Have you considered Las Cruces, NM? Not quite as hot as Laughlin or Tucson and just about the right size (100,000-ish population).

I love Tucson and agree with Gingercoyote - it doesn't feel like a big city.

That is a great idea! I checked out Las Cruces last summer because I had read that it was like Tucson 40 or 50 years ago. It is a great place and New Mexico is fantastic, well worth looking into.

My folks tried out Las Cruces but finally settled on Hemet CA; they liked it there a lot. Tucson became my home town, but there are a lot of good desert places.

Another vote for Las Cruces. A more mild climate overall, and gorgeous with the mountains right outside of town.
