I’m reading if you sell more than 4 used cars in a 12 month period you need these or face fines. I’m also seeing some info that says up to 6 sales are ok. So is it 4 or 6?

I will be selling 4 personal vehicles this year. Owned for years. In addition, I was thinking of doing a couple flips this year. All low dollar stuff under $5,000.

The dealer fees don’t look too bad, the bond is a little confusing. Credit score is 780+.

If I did get licensed, do you then need insurance too? Do you have to register as a business with the state?

Do motorcycles count?

Thanks for any help.

Interesting...according to the DMV:
Used Car Dealer.
A person—other than a new car dealer—who sells or negotiates the sale, buys, exchanges, or auctions 7 vehicles or more in 12 months.

I think your best bet would be to call:

Car Dealer Licensing: (602) 712-7571.

I'd agree

With the REAL info so easy to access, why would anyone rely on a forum

Shocking as it may be, the government is not the first place I go to in order to find out if I need to give the government my money.

I'd agree and understand

But they do set the rules and regulations last time I looked

You are certainly correct there.

Of the forums I’m on I took a stab at this one being my best chance of getting some outside perspective. I’m on a car forum but those guys are mostly from other states so I don’t think their input would be too relevant. Maybe...

Just don't give them your name and number....just ask the questions. It is not like they are going to come hunt you down...there are a ton of "illegal dealerships" out there on Craigslist and others...I am sure they have other fish to fry.

Again, I completely understand

Have you considered actually going to a few smaller dealerships and just
taking a few moments Jaw Jacking to get another prescriptive ?

I understand your not by any means looking into a brick store, however
I'd bet that quite a few of them started out just like you

If by chance your actually going to turn more unit's, my next question would be
are you able to handle the underling issues that are associated with that type
of adventure

The law's, Rules and Regulations are set up so that both the consumer and seller
have recourse and sadly in today's world the seller has to have a HUGE Cash commitment
as well as insurance for the " What If " ...just saying.

The bottom line is to follow your dreams, and if your honest and sincere about your
dealing the referrals alone with push you to the next level
