Hello,

I’m trying to establish a value/price for my used car going off of what used car dealers are asking for similar cars like mine. Although I'm not a used car dealer, this gives me some idea anyway of what my car is actually worth if I was indeed a used car dealer.

Cars like mine, on average, are in the range of $7,750 with around 112K average miles on them – at used car dealers. Except mine has only 49K miles on it. So adjusting for this lower mileage, how much would a car like mine cost at a used car dealer?

My car is a 2008 Ford Fusion SE with a 4 cylinder engine and automatic transmission if this helps any.

Thank you for any help

You can check out Kelly's Blue book at www.kbb.com or NADA at New Car Prices & Used Car Values - NADAguides to give you a rough estimate on what your vehicle is worth.

It is only worth what the next guy is willing to pay for it. After you use an online guide to get an idea, be prepared for something different once dealers appraise it. The only way to find that out is to drive over to one and ask. A lot of places usually aren't that enthusiastic about just appraising your car for fun unless you have real intentions of trading and buying something else from them, so be prepared for that or just go to CARMAX and ask them.

Most dealers will buy car outright (ala Carmax model). Just go there and tell them you want to sell it.

Of course be prepared to be disappointed. They have to price enough where they make money on it as well. They have mouths to feed also.

Hmm, NADA added on an extra $1,887 for having 49K miles. I'm not sure what percentage that is.

Check Craigslist for what people are asking for comparable cars.

THIS.

KBB and NADA will give you a starting point. Go from there. If you can't sell the car for what you're asking, you're obviously asking too much. But "book value" will at least give you a place to start.

best guess... $9000.. no higher. That's if you sell private party/craigslist. Dealer will offer you $5000 and try to sell it for $11000.
