Hi all,

Have you driven, say to California, with your nice dark window tint, especially on those front driver and passenger windows? Has the CHP or local LEO stopped to arrest you felony window tinting? I exaggerate but who knows. I know you can go way darker here than you can go in CA. I want to get my CA native truck tinted nicely to protect against the nuclear furnace that is the Phoenix sun.

Experiences?

Thanks!

just don't ever drive into California. Problem solved. In the 22 years since I escaped the C.S.S.R. I have only gone there maybe five times. I will not give them any of my money if I can help it at all.

I have basically limo tint on every window except the windshield and I've never had an issue. I go to California 2-3 times a year.

It's the luck of the draw. When I lived in AZ, I had 20% on the front sides (illegal even in AZ), and limo on the rest, was never stopped in 16 years. Moved to CA, and was stopped 2 weeks later at the ag checkpoint on I-40. No ticket or warning, but I immediately had the front sides redone with CA friendly 88%. I see CA cars all the time with illegal tint, some may never get stopped. I also know people who drove their AZ tinted cars into CA, and got a ticket. Even though it may be legal in AZ, it's not in CA.

If it is legal AZ tint, CA can't give you a ticket for it. I mean they CAN...but it is not a valid ticket. Sounds like whomever was driving either pissed off the LEO and/or they needed probable cause to pull the vehicle over in the first place.

Thanks everyone.

I understand you can get a slight windshield tint, IF you have a doctors prescription.
Is this prescription easy to get, just by asking an optometrist?

I know some states do, but pretty sure CA dosen`t exempt out of state vehicles, they must follow CA law. Funny though, when I lived in AZ, and drove through CA with my 20% tint, I was never stopped. Then after moving to CA, and registering my car here, BAM, stopped within 2 weeks! There was a code enforcement officer at the I-40 agriculture inspection station. I no sooner left, and was pulled over. Gave me a lecture on the tint, but to be fair, no ticket or warning after telling him I had just mover to CA, and would rectify ASAP.

Thanks, good to know. I am having some tint installed tomorrow, so I don't bake myself driving around AZ.

I would tend to doubt that. If your car isn't registered in CA...why would it need to comply with CA regulations? We don't use all their CARB approved auto parts...why would my windows be any different? If it meets AZ law, CA has nothing to say about it.
