I am moving from SF Bay area, where I got slapped with $300-500 monthly water bills, while trying hard to reduce. My place in AZ has all drought tolerant plants, of course, no pool etc., so I think we'll be pretty good on water usage.

I see from Google satellite imagery that many many residences here have pools... seems crazy !

Forget about NAWAPA. That's a ridiculous 70 year old American pipe dream that's never going to happen. The NAWAPA project that was envisioned was all about destroying western and Arctic Canada's environment, emptying out western Canadian cities and relocating what would now amount to multiple millions of Canadian people and then redirecting Arctic and sub-Arctic rivers through Canada to the American south. People who are still thinking that such a preposterous idea is feasible need to get a grip on reality. They should not expect a neighbouring country to destroy itself for them. If people in the south want more water they can bloody well uproot themselves and move to other parts of America where there is plenty of water. Alaska would be an excellent place for them to relocate to.

Why does it seem crazy? Lots of people have pools...

$300-$500 water bills are crazy...the most ours has been was $150 but that was because we needed to drain and refill the pool...

Mine in Phoenix runs between 20-45 for just water. In total, never more than 110 for water/trash/sewer even in the summer.

If our neighbors choose to be uncooperative and selfish, then perhaps it's time for us to consider drafting a Canadian "liberation" plan.

It's not an issue. Arizona has plenty of water it's just all trapped in underground aquifers.
