A site that caught the eyes of millions of travelers on their way to the Grand Canyon has closed its doors after nearly a half-century in business.

Bedrock City, located south of the Canyon's South Rim on State Route 64, was a Flintstones-themed roadside attraction featuring kids activities, a restaurant and a gift shop.

As KJZZ reported last week, Bedrock City quietly shut down the weekend of January 26 after being up for sale for several years. A new owner was set to take over the property, and he told The Arizona Republic that it will become Raptor Ranch, which will feature birds of prey on display and in performances.

The property dates to 1972, when the Speckels family purchased it. A member of that family worked in the original Bedrock City theme park in South Dakota before building the Arizona version, KJZZ reported. That site closed in 2015.

It's not exactly the Stone Age, but if you're looking for a little history on your way to the Canyon, check out the Moqui Stage Station scenic drive, which offers a look at an 1890s stagecoach route from Flagstaff to the natural wonder.

Do you have a link to the scenic drive from Flag to the station? I've done it twice but it has been a long time and I lost my gps tracks in a move. I am talking about the entire stage coach road from Flag to Moqui station, not the 20 mile drive that comes up in a google search.
Thanks.

Good riddance.

I was there last year. It was a dump and a rip-off.

Thank you. I had found that in a Google search. I know the trail starts just North of Flag and runs up through some pretty country. All ranch land and forest. I'll keep looking.

I went there about 6 years ago and thought, man this place needs an infusion of funds!

I went back about 4 months ago and thought, they are just milking this place until it falls apart and not investing in it at all. The goats were gone and none of the computer driven stuff was functioning (theater, tunnel scenes).

I noticed the owners were turning it more into a small RV park it seemed towards the end. I feel bad some people who I think were there pretty much semi-permanently. Last time I drove by they were all gone except one RV which I assume is some sort of care taker.

I bet the place was pretty cool up till about 15 years ago. Still sad to see it go. Even though the place was falling apart a lot of the local kids still loved the dinosaur slide. I found out about the place closing via a little girl who was very distressed that her favorite slide had closed. My son would ride on that slide over and over again too.
Another piece Americana slides into just being a memory.

Best wishes to the new owner. They will have challenges. In theory though enough traffic passes by that something could be successful there. A wildlife themed place might be the ticket.

For a brush with folks who made the History of Arizona try shopping at the Babbitt Brothers Trading Post.

If you use those direction with Google maps, you can find a few roads that lead towards Flag. One comes off the US 89 just a bit north of Flag.
