Um yeah. I agree that exposing children to porn is a serious health risk. Will never change my mind about that.

A serious health risk? Oh wow. Inappropriate, sure, but harmful to one's health? That seems a bit out of touch.

I'm very libertarian, and this is part of the reason it's difficult for me to support Republicans in elections… until I see what the Democrats have in store. If the GOP just stopped their members from crap like this that won't be of any consequence and makes them look like hypocrites to boot, they'd have an easier time winning elections.

There’s truth here. The religious right has ruined the party.

It's almost as if they were surfing the internet, saw some moronic idea or legislation being passed in another city/state/country and were like "huh, you think that's useless? HMB"

The Republicans in the AZ legislation should focus on more important fiscal issues, like how to attract more jobs with lower tax incentives, reduce regulations in small towns for start up companies that need them to help boost local economy, and trim the sales taxes because they're high at 8.37%. AZ has the 11th highest sales tax rate.

But no, they rather focus on 'cultural' matters.

Dave, Detroit, Hschlick and Madolf.... great posts. I'm so disillusioned with both parties. I'm hoping that this 2 party system collapses under it's own ridiculousness. Maybe we'll get to a point where government focuses on things that it should.

The GOP has been legislating morality for a long time and no one seems to care.
However, it does influence people in the voting booth.

Now now...both parties try and "legislate morality"...just depends on whose morality the viewpoint is coming from. Granted this is a ridiculous thing for our legislature to take up...and a waste of taxpayer money for the time they spent on it...but don't try and turn it into a GOP/DNC difference.

You can call it "Whataboutism" all you want as well...some day we will actually have politicians that actually care about their constituents rather than their own political power. Of course I am probably deluding myself...politicians, by definition, only care about power and control. Not what is best for the country or the American People.

In principle, he's absolutely correct. When you think about it, prostitution is legal here in the form of escort services, which is really the same thing ... except brothels promote sex openly, and escorts advertise "companionship". In the end, what's the difference, and why shouldn't either one be legal? Same with marijuana: it's legal here under the guise of medicinal purposes, but you know very well that most people with a card are doing it recreationally. Makes no sense to outlaw or restrict any of these so called "vices".

This is the same legislature that, in 2014, passed a bill stating that it was okay to refuse service to someone you *think* might be gay or lesbian, if your religion thinks homosexuality sinful.

The only reason that bill didn't become law at the time was because then-Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed it.

Then, in 2015, they exempted churches from having to pay property taxes.

Theocracy in action!
Why are you always nosing in on the Arizona forum? You don't even live here, and all you do is bash Arizona. Please stay in CA where you belong.

Agree 100%. I'm also a former Republican turned Libertarian for this very reason. Some of the red southern states have practically banned all abortions, turning women into criminals for a personal decision! At the same time, cutting taxes and reducing government spending are most important to me (more so than social issues), so this is the reason why I can't support Dems either.

As well as get rid of the state income tax once and for all! I can think of MANY other things they could be doing that are far more essential and constructive for AZ, instead of focusing on porn or other personal matters ... but we just have to consider the source!
