We may be moving to Cottonwood but I see that homes have gravel landscaping and don't see much grass at all. Is there a lawn watering issue? I want grass.

It's going to go dormant and brown in the winter. And turn brown and die in the summer when it's 145 in the direct sun.

America, the only place where people spend large amounts of money growing grass, only to cut it and throw it away in the trash.

Arizona in general is not a good place if you want grass. Even in the cooler/ wetter places landscaping tends to be gravel. If you really really want grass be sure to check out the cost of watering it.

(I have no idea what it costs...'cause I don't have grass).

My inlaws had a place with grass in Cottonwood. It didn't grow to well with out constant watering. Cottonwood sometimes has restrictions on water usage because water supplies in the area are in great demand.

Does the OP realize that this is an arid state?

artificial turf is a smart alternative; its green, doesn't need regular watering, doesn't grow to fill landfills, and it always is green..

Fake grass will eventually get sun-damaged and go to the landfill. (Real) grass clippings can at least be composted.

Arizona is a bad place for grass, real or fake. Deal with it.

Either do real grass or none at all, IMO artificial grass looks tacky. If you're going install in your yard, make sure to add xeriscape native plants and mulch to reduce water consumption. Grass fertilizer and plenty of iron helps keeps it green.

high quality synthetic turf looks better than real grass, and requires almost zero maintainance but, to each his own..after 3 years in my yard, it looks just like brand new; I rinse it off once or twice a month if it hasn't rained, and that's it, even with a dog in the house..

Agreed. If you get nice stuff, it doesn't look tacky at all. It's always green, looks clean, and maintenance is very minimal.

I have real grass in my backyard and it is becoming too much of a pain. And I actually enjoy doing yard work.
