The good news is also usually when the press and public start panicking for real, the worst is usually over. Some of us remember aids from the 80s or polio from the 50s.

If you really look at that graph though, it does that every week and every weekend it spikes higher.

Read the footnote for the chart on the site you linked. It says that "Illnesses in the last 4-7 days may not be reported yet".

It is so confusing. I wish they would simply not post a number until one week has passed.

And that number should be a 7-day rolling average.

I agree. That removes any weekday vs. weekend discrepancies in reporting.

I guess it’s a sign of the times. People expect a number “right now”, and so they get a number that is garbage.

Starting on March 27th prior to the shutdown: 773 cases statewide. On April 28th (nearly one month after the shutdown began): 6,948 cases statewide. On May 15th, which was the day the state officially opened for business (a month and a half after the start of the mandatory shutdown): 13,169 cases. The number of confirmed COVID 19 cases continued to increase during the time when practically everything was closed. This is proof that the lockdown didn't stop the spread.

Could also be due to increased testing.

That's why everyone should ignore "cases" and focus on hospitalizations.

Exactly!

Where I'm at in Mohave county we don't do a lot of testing if you're not sick. So our mortality rate is worse than 10%! 513 cases and 58 deaths.
