Prescott and PV are pretty different despite being right next to each other. Prescott is a cute, old Western town, and PV is suburban, much more flat, and a lot fewer trees. Despite being so suburban, PV doesn't have many sidewalks. PV does have more chain stores and they have the only cinema in the area though. If you can afford it though, I recommend Prescott. If you prefer warmer weather, then Cottonwood would be better. Shopping is more limited in Cottonwood however, Prescott Valley is about an hour away though as is the north end of the Phoenix Metro.

Woody01 I was wondering about the water issues, thanks! I know there's been bad drought in the SW for quite a while now. I do want to have a little garden for flowers, herbs, vegetables if I can...

Adventuregurl I love Sedona but I am coming from a small overcrowded tourist town with bad traffic (Salem MA) and don't want to move to another! I have been to your area several times and like it. The Prescott winters wouldn't bother me though, I'm a tough New Englander

I'd pick Prescott then...their traffic isn't great but at least there are more roads to choose from, Sedona is one big long line up of traffic. I really like Prescott just wish their winters were warmer.

Me too,

If a photographer, get a home with a good view of sunrise and/ or sunset.
Working from home or 'retired' (or Covid homebound) is far more enjoyable, with a view from your home.

There are some really pretty setting in and around Prescott. Walking / biking distance to a nice scenic park is a good idea too.

I grew up in a tourist location (Estes Park, CO), and they are nicer places to visit (mid-week and in good weather) that to live there.
BTW, had a great stay homestay in Marblehead, MA last fall. (over Oct 31, so Salem was packed and crazy)

Their 'mild' winters with a wee bit of snow are part of what makes the town magic. There are plenty of areas just a little south with lower elevation that will have milder winters for those that desire that
