We're moving there in a few weeks and I was curious just how bad, as I've seen lots of negatives, the drive would be timewise. Also, the same would go for Maricopa.

Unless you live close to where you work, your drive will be difficult no matter where you live. I live in Maricopa. For two years, I drove my daughter to a Catholic School. It takes a huge amount of patience to commute. I am quite sure the same would be applicable from Queen Creek, Ahwatukee, etc. The roads are very full and the driving practice dangerous. Many days you will be faced with car accidents that will cause major back ups. You will have to leave early to give yourself a good cushion or else have a job where your employer does not mind if you are late.

I think the smartest thing people can do it live close to where they work. Not many people do that. The stress of commuting has to be hard. I got out of it and I am glad.

Thumbs down Bad rush hour traffic & loooong delays @ times!

Right now Maricopa has only one road in and out that goes to Phoenix metro area, and it connects to I-10. You will find that this traffic in rush hour will be a slow moving parking lot. Queen Creek to Tempe isn’t as bad as Maricopa City because there are other surface streets (non-freeway) that you can take. However it too will take a good time to get back and forth with rush hour traffic. Much depends on just where in Queen Creek and also Tempe that you may be located. For the most part isn’t not going to be good.

I live in the Johnson Ranch area of Queen creek and yes rush hour is a test of your patience. At least Ellsworth is now a 6 lane hwy from German to Elliot. And like the other poster said there are different surface streets you can use as an alternative. Ironwood is under construction to be more than one lane. So if you can tough it out the cost of houseing is worth it.
