Can't seem to find anything useful on the web. What are the steps and where do I go?

I'm in Pima County if that makes a difference.

So, I can just walk around carrying a weapon?

And, how do I legally get it here from NY without violating Interstate Federal Firearms laws? (Transporting across state lines, is my question).

I would get in touch with the NRA on that topic just to cover your butt.

Transporting your handgun from New York to Arizona will not put you in violation of the Interstate Transportation law. If it is lawful for you to possess a firearm in the first place, then it is not illegal to take it with you when you move to another state. The only requirement is that the firearm must be unloaded during transport and neither it or the ammunition is directly accessible from the driving compartment. If the vehicle doesn't have a compartment (like a trunk) that is separate from the passenger compartment, then the firearm and ammunition must be transported in a locked container, excluding the glove compartment and center console.

How did you get that from being told there was no registration in AZ?

You need a CCW to carry concealed, but you can open carry with no permit.

a permit is only needed for a ccw . you can carry a pistol on your belt . not hidden , but in plain view .you can carry a weapon in your vehicle as long as it is in plain view . your best bet might be a ccw to covr your butt for all occasions . there are establishments that will post on their doors "no weapons allowed".

"No weapons allowed" applies to concealed carry as well as open carry.

How do I go about registering a pistol in Arizona?
Arizona is one of the many states where you don't have to register your pistol or any firearm. We do the the sensible thing by register criminals, not firearms that are owned by law-abiding citizens.

Pretty much. As others have noted for concealed you need a CCW and even then there are prohibited establishments (schools, bars, national parks, etc.)

If you wanted to register the gun you could call up the sheriff's office with the serial number, and then call again if you sell it. Just be sure to keep your own personal records for any sales/purchase transactions and you'll be okay.

As long as you travel between states where ownership of a firearm is legal, you can keep it in the trunk of your vehicle, unloaded and locked, and not have to worry about it, even if the states you are passing through prohibit them.
