From what I understand, it's sort of like Phoenix, with cooler weather, and it's closer to Las Vegas!

It's a lot closer to Las Vegas (only 1 hour away). But it's a really tiny town.

Tiny town? The City of Kingman is well over 25K people with the surrounding county areas also with 'Kingman' addresses adding an additional 30K or so folks.

Compared to the 6 million in Phoenix it's small.

It just seems like there's a decent amount of out-ot-staters asking about Kingman and it's surprising to me. I'm from Phoenix and I never heard much about Kingman. No one ever took trips there or ever had anything to say about it. I'm thinking it's Californians mostly, because of it's location.

We drove through Kingman, in 1964. It was tiny scary little burg with alot of strange-looking,wierd dogs in it. There was a scary hotel which we didn't stay at and that was it! The main drag was named after Andy Devine. Our car broke down and the guy that fixed it, looked like him and sounded like him!! I would NEVER recognize Kingman now. Noone lived there then excepts a few locals.

I love Kingman. We've been here for almost 4 years. It's a nice self-contained little town, with an eclectic mix of people. Lots of retirees and other refugees from SoCal, as well as some native Arizonians, and other folks from around the US who landed here for a variety of reasons. Kingman is at the intersections of I40, 93, and Rt. 66, so seemingly on the crossroads to everywhere. The town has been slowly growing over the years. Once the Hoover Dam Bypass is complete, Las Vegas will be a much easier commute, and I think Kingman will really start to take off. Being at 3500' elevation, we have an ideal climate as well. We could use better shopping, and more entertainment. But all that will come in time.

You would NEVER have recongnized Kingman back in the 60's! It's amazing how people have come to settle there, seeing what it was like when we saw it in 1964.

No doubt! I'm envious of your experience, and it sounds like you're due for another visit.

We recently got a book on the history of Kingman going back before the the turn of the century and thereafter. The history and the people of the area is amazing.
