Hello Cyncaslp,

Where are you moving from and have you been to Florida or Arizona fora visit?
They are like comparing apples and oranges, so maybe if you give more specific info like what you like to do etc.. post in the FL board as well..

I hope others respond. Good luck!

Hi sfw1979,

thanks for replying, I am in NY, Brooklyn, I visited Florida in several occasions, Arizona never. We are tired of the cold. We want good schools for the children, elementary and junior high.

Ohhhh. We almost moved to Florida 3 + years ago. Someone upstairs was watching out for us and blew our realtor and her office away. She was fine, just took 6 mos to find her again. We decided to get off the plane in Phoenix and drive around. Love AZ and we are beyond thankful that we picked this spot. Please read the Florida board, it is very informative. Unless you have unlimited income, the property tax and homeowners insurance crisis is enough to keep us away....along with some really ugly spiders (sorry Steve). Other than that, it is still beautiful there.

I grew up in Orlando Florida and I say move to AZ !!!!! Unless you are fond of heat and humidity that will have you drenched in sweat before you can get from your front door to your car door... mosquitos... cockroaches.. and the alligators that are in every lake..

I agree with the person who recommended reading the FL board - boy, people say the AZ board is negative but we've got nothin on the FL folks!!!

That said, you certainly can't judge a place by the comments on this little board. I'd recommend visiting AZ before you try to make a decision. It's very different from FL and, aside from the heat and maybe a few other things, I wouldn't really put them in the same category. FL is on the ocean, has hurricanes to deal with, is humid, has DisneyWorld, Key West, close to neat cities on the east coast....AZ is landlocked, desert, dry, no fun theme parks (a few supposedly in the works), and not close to much other then Vegas and CA cities. IMO, while they share a few similarities, they're overall pretty different and if you're only reason for considering AZ and FL is to live somewhere warm, there are many other states you could add to the list too.

Between the two, if I didn't have kids and had unlimited funds, I'd consider living in FL. If I did have kids and maybe not a huge amount of money, I'd lean more toward AZ.

I'd recommend doing a lot of research and visiting in person before narrowing down your choices.

We are fond of the west side, but there are plenty of nice areas in AZ to choose from. We took about a year of visiting and driving around the state to finally wind up in Peoria. No to Florida! Our property taxes are lower and home owners insurance about a third (depending on where in Fl you go). We just felt our retirement dollars would go further here.
