We are starting to look for a retirement area for the future. We desire a more isolated location. Need low priced acreage for horses. Conservative values. Pleasant not too hot weather and not a lot of snow. Basic necessites like a Walmart and medical facilities within a 30 minute drive. Is there such a place there?

What do you consider "low priced"?

You might want to look in the Pearce area. Saw some nice looking parcels down off of highway 181 (some of them with water) in a nice grassy section of the state that looks like it would be perfect for horses (go to any Arizona real estate site and do a search for MLS #20717004) . That particular parcel is a bit further than 1/2 an hour from from the nearest "decent-sized" (having a number of stores) towns (Willcox (48 min) and or Benson (1 hour)) but there may be other lots in that areas a bit closer in that still fit your criteria. Average summer highs in the area peak at about 94, January highs average close to 60 with overnight lows averaging between 25-30. Pretty mild.

PS - Benson has a brand new super Walmart, Safeway, a few other stores - and a small hospital. Not sure what Willcox offers.

Benson is also close enough to Tucson to go shopping there also for serious medical issues or specialist. What is it? 40 Miles or so?

Gas City is always a stop on our way from Phoenix to Las Cruces.

Yes, Benson is about 45 minutes or so from Tucson. Of course the area around Pearce is another hour or so from there. Property nearer to Benson is going to cost more - hence the suggestion to look out towards Pearce. Supposedly, there are long-term plans to build a regional medical center in Vail (which is about 20 minutes from Benson (towards Tucson). Not sure when that will actually happen though (if at all).

We bought an acre out near Benson and I think we'll be pretty happy in that location - mild climate, close proximity to coming growth (and the goods and services that brings).

You might look at Chino Valley, north of Prescott. The weather is a lot cooler than Phoenix. Prices are $275K-$350K for a nice house with some acreage.
