...Prescott was still the capital? (For those that don't know, Prescott was the Territorial Capital of Arizona twice in history when Arizona was a territory.)

Do you think the Prescott area would be as big as the Phoenix area now, or do you think the climate in the Phoenix area would have still dominated over the fact that Prescott was capital?

Likewise, do you think that Phoenix being the capital of Arizona was reason that the Phoenix area grew so rapidly and significantly, or do you think it's because of the climate?

Feel free to discuss, I'd like to know peoples' opinions on this!

Three reasons why Phoenix is the dominant city in AZ - water, water, and water. A river runs through it. Prescott hasn't enough water to grow much more than it is now. Prescott could be a capital kind of like Carson City is a capital, but never a major city.

I personally really enjoy Prescott, and would love if it expanded to a larger metro type city, the weather up there is amazing.

Regarding the water situation, I find that interesting.

There are a few cities in AZ along the Colorado which have a more "closer by" and "reliable" source of water.

If I recall correctly, the Salt River is sort of dry running through Phoenix. Is the water halted a little more because of the dams to the east?
