Being from CA maybe you can illustrate to the folks of Arkansas the present problem of illegals. I lived in San Diego, CA for 18 years so I know why you're leaving. It's a shame that illegals are now spreading rapidly to middle America and people don't seem to do anything about it. People don't who haven't lived or visited the west coast don't really understand just how bad it is. It will hit them before they know it and they'll be speaking spanish and the people who use to work construction, farming and fast food will all lose their jobs to illegals like CA, AZ and TX...

Not saying this to badmouth anyone from AR, I just wish people would do something about it and make some noise in the small towns. Our founding fathers and military didn't give up their lives to create the United States of Mexico.

And South Dakota is nothing compared to Manitoba.
Actually, South Dakota is probably more tolerable than most warm-climate people give it credit for. I know that many people down there assume that anything north of the Mason-Dixon is frozen tundra. Of course, adaptation is a good thing for dealing with any kind of climate. It just depends on what one is willing to do. Of course, we all see it differently. After living in Alabama, Texas and the desert southwest, Arkansas seemed about the same to me. Just vastly more humid than the desert of course.

Ever give any thought to the Sierra Nevada or far Northern California? The state isn't LA or the Bay Area from one end to the other you know.

The Gold Country is full of historic little burgs like you're describing.
