If you can show me where I even indicated disabled do not need our help please show me!!!! I do not resent this at all, I do think though you need to understand that $700 is just a start.
No, the $700 is not a start. Its a myth that people who are born disabled get a lot more. It takes a huge amount of time to even be considered for section 8 housing for example. If you are born blind or get in a severe car accident as a child for example, you can expect pain and suffering as a result of the appalling level of public support we provide to the least among us. Its just morally bankrupt.

And politicians who push these constant attacks on the "lazy people" are doing it precisely because they do NOT want a strong safety net for disabled people. Notice that politicians who rile people up about lazy people are the first to propose cuts to the public safety net for the disabled and the elderly. As that is what their big money donors instruct them to do. The attacks on the slothful is just the script they are given by these donors in order to prepare the public for the pain they inflict on disabled salt of the earth Americans who deserve our support.

You're the only one who has lumped the disabled with those who chose not to work or would rather live on the gov't. There is a large segment of people who definitely do fall into the lazy category. They don't want to take any action to improve their situation on their own and have little to no work ethic. Those who are disabled do not fall into that category and do deserve help. I don't think anyone is fighting to take that away from them nor has anyone said otherwise.

Not true. Very powerful forces and politicians are indeed fighting to cut support for the disabled from the already paltry levels, frequently using the lazy as an excuse to make these callous actions. Massive efforts are being made to demonize people living on public assistance. That effects the disabled to an extraordinary degree and is the main reason why people born disabled only get $700 a month to survive on. Its a total disgrace how we treat our disabled.

sorry I have worked (volunteer) with people with disabilities. Like anyone one else on a small income they do get other government assistance. Again why are you potting words into my mouth? I never said it was easy. Yes, the list of those waiting for section 8 housing is long, but it available for those who are disabled. No one ever said those with disabilities have an easy life. Where are you getting the idea so many think that and where are you getting the idea anyone here has claimed everyone receiving assistance is lazy?

You are the type that really needs to live in another country or at least familiarize your self with what life is like for many outside of America? Have you spent much time in say, Haiti, Cuba, India, much of the orient, and so forth? What about the American doctors that are part of the doctors without borders group? They often perform surgery on people, primarily children in other countries that need help because there isn't enough medical help or money for these children.

I am a proud American and proud of what our government does for the disabled. This is not the same as the lazy individuals that continue to have children, can not support them, do little to instill good work ethics on the kids they have and live on any hand outs they can get.

If you think they are so terribly neglected, I suggest you and as many of your friends as you can get together, work to adopt some of the disabled, and give them a hand out of your own pocketbook.

Or is it just easier to be generous with someone else's money?

So now we must compare ourselves to third world hellholes like Haiti and India? Is this how low we have fallen? The richest country in the world. Why not instead of riling people up against the lazy, we start to actually provide a good public safety net for the disabled? Its absolutely appalling that $700 a month is what is available for people who drew the short end of the straw in life. Many, many years of waiting for section 8 housing (amid massive cuts to the program of course) just increases the suffering for the disabled even further. Isnt it time we actually IMPROVED the situation instead?

Suggestions that we go back to the 18th century volunteer based society for the disabled, like the systems they have in sub-Saharan Africa is really not constructive. We know how the disabled were treated hundreds of years ago and still are in sub-Saharan Africa. Some people with a lot of money want to go back to those times, but most people with a conscience will oppose it.

Do you think $700 a month for the people who were born disabled is appropriate in the richest country in the world? Why such opposition to providing humane living conditions for the least among us? You claim you are proud that the disabled get $700 a month to survive on. I find it appalling that we cant do any better than this for people who are suffering.

...
OK, then, you are a socialist (by definition) and
you do find it easy to be generous with other
people's money. Thanks for clearing that up.

You keep saying $700 per month, but as of 2017, the average monthly check for disability was $1,171. Disability can range from $700 to $1700 monthly.

No one is fighting to cut help for disabled. You should find new talking points.

Not true. People who are born disabled do not get SSDI. People who are born disabled or was involved in a car accident as a child or for some other reason do not have a long work history can only get SSI, not SSDI.

The reason why it is such a paltry sum is precisely because so many people are fighting to keep it that way. Or fighting to cut medial help for the disabled. The idea that we should actually provide a decent standard of living for those who drew the short end of the straw in life is met with ferocious resistance. We see it here as well. People dont want to hear it and try to close their ears.
