My family and I (spouse and 4 kids) are considering moving to Arkansas sometime next year. We are currently living in Phoenix Arizona and are tired of the busy city life. Arizona has grown so much in the past 10 years, and its becoming like California. My husband and I are both able to transfer with our jobs and would like to buy a home. We're looking in the Springdale and Fort Smith area. We are Hispanic and I was wondering if there are a lot of racist people in these areas.

Arizona is NOTHING like California.

As someone who lives in California I couldn't be more offended.

Why do you assume there is a good possibility there are a lot of racist people? Because it's the south? I lived in Arkansas about 24 years ago (Fayetteville), and didn't meet a single racist.

My guess is you haven't lived in Arizona, or any of the other places Californians are fleeing to. I grew up in California and I'm not even slightly offended. Many Californians have drastically changed the areas they moved to, and not for the better.

98% of the people in Arkansas could not care less what race or ethinc background you have.
They care about your behavior.

It's quite simple. Press the "OFF" button for your computer or simply click "HOME" on your browser and go back to living in your dream.

Just curious, what made you zero in on those areas (Springdale and Fort Smith)?

You will see no or almost no racist people here when it comes to Hispanics particularly. I think Springdale would fit your needs better than Ft Smith. Speingdale bty has a very large % of Hispanics living in the city and lots of Hispanic grocery stores, restaurants to choose from. This is true for a good part of NWA, not just Sprngdale. You may want to consider Rogers or Bentonville as will. There are a lot of towns that might work for you. I will add one thing, the crime rate in Springdale is a bit higher than some of the surrounding cities, but that doesn't mean it is awful by any means. good luck and keep asking questions. There are many of us here that are willing to give you truthful answers to your questions.

I agree and I certainly didn't think the OP meant anything offensive with her remarks. We all know CA isn't like it was 20, 30 or 40 years ago. Even those who defend CA up one side and down the other know this.
