My husband and I are thinking about moving to Arkansas in a few years. We are thinking either Mountain Home, Van Buren or Siloam Springs. What is the crime like in these cities? Is there a lot of scenery/trees? We have been to Arkansas before and like it but haven't visited these cities yet. We are kind of looking at cities around a population of 30,000. Would like to buy a house around $250,000 or less and somewhat close to a big city since my husband is an electrician. Any pros/cons, thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Crime statistics (and more) for every city. Push the blue “Mtn Home” in the post above yours and it will take you to that city’s page.

Of the three, I would hands down choose Van Buren. It has a sweet downtown area. It’s close to Fort Smith, Fayetteville and Devil’s Den National Park. Lots of hiking, restaurants, shopping etc. Small towns outside of Van Buren towards Fayetteville have extremely low housing prices and very low (mostly petty) crime. It’s very safe in the rural areas.

Ech, I worked in Van Buren. It's just a part of the greater Fort Smith metro, and crime there was ugly when I lived there in the late 90s. Maybe it's better now, but still.

I personally would pick Mountain Home, as it is a fully functioning community. Siloam Springs is now just part of the NW AR population mush, IMHO. Some people like that, of course.
