My wife and I are thinking about moving to Hot Springs Village and we were wondering what the winters were like there. How cold does it get and are there a lot of ice storms in the winter? We are also thinking about Kimberling City / Branson, Missouri area. Does anyone know how HSV weather compares with KC or Branson?

There is weather summary information on city-data.com:

//www.city-data.com/city/Branson-Missouri.html

Looks like about 10 degrees warmer in HSV most of the year. I don't know about Branson, but icy roads are a concern in HSV a few days each year. Often it is not an issue during the day, when a lot of it melts and you can see the rest.

How cold does it get in HSV?

HSV gets either weather patterns from Ok or Texas in general. There are times that weather slips straight North but for the most part it is a west to east movement. Check OK City or Dallas ... and about 8 hours later, it will be in HS or HSV area.

Are there a lot of ice storms in the winter?

More ice than snow in Arkansas as a rule. And not a great deal of ice storms each winter ... say about every 4-5 years ... being hit with a run of ice storms. But on avg, each year the state will get mixed weather during Dec through early Feb timeframes, with Jan/Feb having the strongest real cold weather hits. I have seen it freeze for Thanksgiving in past, but normal avg's are around 40-50. However, like most southern states, when does hit its hard and damaging. Most comes from breaking limbs, which keeps the local communities, energy companies, and smarter homeowners trimming limbs to limit weather related damage (Wind and Ice).

Lastly, compared to Kimberling City / Branson, Missouri area?

Northern Arkansas/Missouri is colder and has longer winter patterns including more snow and ice storms than the mid state area (HS/HSV/LR/etc). As mentioned, expect to see 5-10 degree differance in temps'.

What is more likely to see is northern part of Arkansas into Missouri slipping below freezing which allows things to stick. Then the mid part of state hovers around 32 ... leading to endless TV reports warning of possible freezing weather. This will bother you more than the weather itself.
