Hi everyone,

My husband and I have thrown together a last minute camping trip to Arkansas. We hadly previously considered TN but now we're thinking about finding a spot along the Buffalo River.
A few Ark websites stated that you can "primitive camp" just about anywhere along the river....is this true? If anyone knows of some good, private spots; I'd love it if you could PM me.
We're looking near st. Joe because that's where my family was from and I wanted to check out the area. I did see a campground called Woolum but was concerned it'd be noisy due to rafting drop-offs etc...
I'm open to all suggestions though. We'll be coming up the 65 thru Little Rock so, anything easily accessible from there would be good.
Thanks so much!

Great time of the year to camp ... I love winter camping.

Yes - you can primitive camp along the Buffalo ... I've done it numerous times w/o issue. I prefer the extreme Upper Buffalo area but the Woolum area is very nice as well. My only suggestion would be to stock up on supplies before you get off hwy-65 as your not likely to find to many road-side stores open because of the holiday.

lol...yes, we just purchased some heavy duty long underwear and we have zero degree bags. I also checked the forcast for the week.

We're pretty much good on supplies but I will take that into consideration and double check when we roll thru Little Rock. We thought about the holiday and wondered how dead everything would be up there. What is the extreme upper buffalo area? I saw pics of the "Indian creek" area and was blown away at how beautiful it was.
thanks for the replies...much appreciated.

The upper Buffalo River is the headwaters ... and loosely considered the portion of the river well west of where the Little Buffalo River flows into the Buffalo River.

I should clarify I prefer the extreme upper Buffalo (Ponca / Boxley area) for floating - scenery and camping along the entire 140 miles of the river is excellent, so I think you will really enjoy camping in the Woolum area.

I just finished watching a video online about the Ponca/Boxley area and -wow! I hope to check that area out next time. We're sticking in Searcy co. but I'm hoping to see a lot in the short time we're there.
I'm starting to get excited about going. Maybe I'll post pic's aftewards.

The Indian Creek area is in the upper Buffalo area. You can't beat the upper Buffalo, but all areas of the Buffalo are beautiful. Just enjoy this trip and start planning another one as soon as it's over!
