Everything is great about this city, but it's funny how it's not really a ''I love Singapore and really want to live there" kind of city. But it has so much to offer, that I'm sometimes surprised its not more like that.

Yeah, Tiger, but as you know, your name sake, the Real Tiger beer there isn't loaded with formaldehyde like it is in Vietnam, Hong Kong, elsewhere!
But it is a bummer with a 1.2 exchange rate, hotels over $350 Sing, and $8 for a bowl of noodles.
Hey, one question-I used to love Sketches in the Bugis shopping centre, but it's gone. Did they move, or just fold up shop?
WHAT??? Are you nuts??? Don't even get me started about this heavily polluted, gawd awful traffic, disgusting spitting and corrupt country!! Hey, you have to do what you have to for making a living (which is why I'm here) but I can't wait to get back to the southwest. NO WAY should any self respecting Westerner ever consider spending any more than a couple of months here!
Oh, sure, you can go to the Bund, stay at the Waldorf, and be treated like a king (as long as you have the money.) But you get 10 km away, and start getting into Real China, and then you can really see what this country is all about. And it ain't pretty!
Sorry to unload on a fellow Texan (well, New Mexico, close enuf) I just spent 10 hours in a smoky conference room negotiating with 15 Chinese and my fun meter is a bit pegged out a bit now!!

The only downside is its a bit expensive.
I don't like hot and humid weather though. What month is the coolest?
How about Hong Kong. I went to HK in 1987, its very congested and dirty.
I was in HK back in 2007. They must have cleaned up since you were there. Congestion ? Yes, it's HK but not intolerable. Except for the housing, I was surprised at how affordable everything else was.
My only bad experience were those horrible Indian and/or Pakistani men on every street corner pestering people to buy clothes.
In 1987, I stayed at Hotel York, is that considered a good hotel? I took a tour on Santosa Islands.
Sentosa has really changed since then. You might not even recognize the island now. All kinds of resorts, theme park, restaurants.
