I don't know about marriage laws in those countries regarding transexuals, but they're definitely a big part of the landscape in urban Thailand. I think Taiwan is probably the most progressive with regards to LGBT in Asia though.
Thailand by a long shot, and the Philippines not too far behind.
Laos seems VERY conservative and rural to me. I can't imagine ladyboys being there. Cambodia is more wilder, and it's been about 15 years since I was there, but didn't see any there.
Thailand, they are everywhere. They regularly make movies about them as well. Cambodia could be influenced.
Vietnam seems a bit more conservative to me. More Chinese influences and such. I don't recall seeing transgenders in Vietnam, at least not 10 years ago anyways, when I was there last. Same with China.
Japan. You'd think they'd be all over Japan, but I never see them in Japan. I taught a lesson to my Japanese students here (as I live in Japan), and they were pretty confused by the concept altogether. They were trying to figure out if they were gay or not, and just thrown off by the idea. Japan isn't quite as wild and crazy as people think.
South Korea is extremely conservative. They don't even acknowledge they have gay people, let alone transgenders.
In short, Thailand and the Philippines are strongest #1 and #2, and the others are way down the list far behind. I saw a few in Indonesia as well, but can't recall seeing transgenders anywhere else. Thailand though, they are all over the place. The Philippines here and there.

Keep in mind this is what you see around Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket.etc, these places are urban centres and also tourist hovels, so they don't represent the whole of Thailand any more than NYC represents America.
Japan probably has historically had a pretty tolerant attitude to homosexuals and transgendered people, but it's not something that is flaunted a lot.
Chinese people do not care if and only if it's not their family member...
