India Honor Killing: Man Beheaded, Woman Beaten To Death After Eloping

Unlike in many Muslim countries, this sort of thing is illegal in India, but there is still that estimate, mentioned in the article, that about 1000 of these honor killings happen annually in India.

I believe that tourism is down because of the rapes that were recently in the news, and now this happens.

I think the problem is that there are probably not enough funds to hire and adequately arm enough police so there is a huge lag from the time they are called to the time that they actually arrive on the scene. In this instance the family of the woman who did this horrible thing were about to burn the body when the police came and stopped them. Where were the police when her family found the couple in New Delhi and took them away? Wasn't there a commotion? Don't they have cell phones? Why would not some neighbor have called the police? Did they?

I remember how brave the out gunned Indian police were during that Muslim attack on Mumbai.

Such a shame.

I read one book about honor killing.

I actually finished the book for only few hours reading it.
It's pity and sad for women to face this such tradition specially if it comes from the hands of
your own family.

I don't believe that honor killing is specified in Indian law; however, there is no get out of jail card for those committing them. It's considered murder, plain and simple.

Now this happens? This has been going on for centuries, even millennia. It's not just confined to Indian Muslims, either. Even the practice of sati, brides burning themselves alive on their husband's funeral pyre, still continues if they can get away with it.
